How essencial tragic and comic can be...

... in a natural Allen's piece of great art!

by Fernando Gil Paiva

In 2004, Woody Allen presented the movie "Melinda and Melinda", a good part of his cinebiography. Both Melindas were part of two stories that can be told under different point of views. One of them is the tragic Melinda (Radha Mitchell), that focus her life on her problems and always creates obstacles for apparently simple stuff. So, she turns the easy into the hard. The second Melinda (also Radha), but in another context of supporting actors, represents the other side of the story - the happy and disconnected one. She is the natural and existing antagonic side. The difference is that also in front of troubles, this Melinda tries to organize her life believing in the positive side. Therefore, the well-structured and eloquent Allen's screenplay puts in the same story, other two stories that go into a maze that goes and comes back with his essencial and basic characters: either too comics, or too tragics.
